America is suffering from a severe case of truth decay.

Sadly, in our current culture, lying and falsehood is fast becoming the accepted norm. I have asked myself time and time again, is that true? You probably have too. So, how in the world is a good, decent, common sense person to discern truth from lies? How can we know what is true and what isn’t?

As a nation, we need a moral root canal to root out lies, falsehood, and fake news that denies, distorts and twists the truth.

What is truth?

Before we answer that, what does God have to say about liars and their lying tongues.

Solomon writes in Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things which the Lord hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. A heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil. A false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers.”

What a list of what God hates, that which He considers abomination. Note carefully, two of the seven have to do with a lying tongue and lies. God hates liars. There is no place in heaven for liars. (Revelation 21:8).

The anti-Christ world system surrounding us can never speak truth. Its foundation is built on and perpetuated by lies. Satan is a liar. The evil one has never told the truth, never will and his deceived, deluded, spiritually blind followers never will either. So, if you are holding your breath, hoping the world will tell the truth, good luck with that my friend!

Our non-thinking, blind-eyed, believe anything and everything on social media society has bought into the idea that truth is what I say it is.

How further from the truth about truth can we get? So, I guess every person is the arbiter of truth according to how they see it? By the way, who decreed that the news media and social media is the source of truth? Who anointed news journalists and opinion editorial writers as the repository of truth?

“Truth is what I say it is” is nothing less than terrifyingly scary and downright dangerous. Beware. Be on guard. Stay on alert. Truth shredding, lie peddling deceivers are everywhere. There are people out there in our society that don’t have a truthful bone in them, but they think they do.

Back to the question “What is truth?”. You and I aren’t the first ones to make this eternally significant inquiry. Study John 18:28-37. Jesus stood before Pilate before He was taken to be crucified on the cross on Mount Golgotha. In verse 37, Jesus made it clear that He was born into the world to bear witness to the truth, and that everyone that hears His voice is of the truth.

After Jesus’ profound word about truth, Pilate asked in verse 38 “What is truth?” The answer: Pilate, you are looking at truth. Jesus is the truth. Convicted in his conscience and heart, Pilate found no guilt in Jesus. How can you find truth guilty?

Jesus is truth.

The Word of God is the truth about God’s Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

He declared what no man on earth has ever said before “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by Me.” John 14:6. Jesus taught in John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” Salvation, forgiveness of sins and the free gift of eternal life, is through Jesus, the truth.

Again, Jesus is the truth.

There is no truth outside of Christ and the Word of God in the Bible. There aren’t many truths, or many paths to heaven. Truth is God’s truth. Period. Not what some man thinks or wishes what truth is. Truth is revealed in Holy Scripture. If you want to know the truth and live according to truth, study and obey God’s Word.

How To Test If Something Is Truth Or A Lie

  • Does the premise, principle, policy or personal opinion of someone line up with the Bible?
  • Does the Holy Spirit witness with your spirit that what you are listening is true or false?
  • Does what is being proposed line up with timeless, traditional truth and practice from God’s holy word?
  • Does what you are considering to be true reflect the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ?
  • What about the person’s (who is espousing what they call truth) character, reputation, conduct and moral track record? Being who they say they are and doing what they say they do matters.
  • Examine everything carefully. Fact check everything you see and hear with the truth in scripture. If it is not scriptural, it is not true. Go to God’s Word to prevent truth decay!

People who know God’s truth and abide by it cannot and will not be misled by man’s lies. Heaven and earth will pass away, but God’s Word endures forever!

How about you? Do you know the truth? Has the truth in Christ set you free? Are you on your way to heaven because you walk in truth? Do you share the truth with others? Do you stand up against the world’s lies with truth in the name of Jesus?

Know the truth. Walk in truth. Share the truth.

Truth matters, now and forever.

“I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in truth.” III John 4

A Word For Your Week:
