Security cameras. Alarm systems. Border wall. Immunizations. Insurance. Second Amendment rights. Law enforcement. Military. Sanitation. Traffic laws…all in place for protection.
It is a fact that you and I protect what we value. What we care about we protect and defend.
Protection is a big deal to me. I have been taught and trained to be “situationally aware” of my surroundings at all times. That means to be on the lookout. As a Christian, I want to believe that every person in the world is good and wants the best for me. Truth is, not everyone is, as we shall see in a moment.
There is a reason why you and I need God’s protection: the evil one and evil people are in the world we live in. We are consumed with protection because we need protection. It is naïve, head-in-the-sand stupid, plain old dumb and unwise to think you don’t need protection.
The Word of God in the Bible has a lot to say about security, protection and deliverance. Do a word search in Strong’s Concordance to see what God says about protecting His people. I want to address one passage from the Apostle Paul.
In II Thessalonians 3:1-3 Paul writes “Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly, and be glorified, just as it did also with you, and that we may be delivered from perverse and evil men, for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”
Paul had founded the church at Thessalonica. His brothers and sisters in Christ, were folks of steadfast faith and obedience, who were coming under intense persecution for trusting in Jesus. In this last chapter of his second letter to them, he gives then a heads up and encouragement about how to look to the Lord for deliverance and protection from evil people.
- Pray for us. Why? Two reasons. First, that the Word would spread rapidly (quickly, like a wild fire) through Paul’s ministry. The Word of God would be glorified, respected, revered, honored, and received like the Thessalonians did. Christians need to pray this way for ministry all over the world today.
Second, Paul and his ministry team would be “delivered” from “perverse” and “evil men. Certain people are perverse and evil because they do not have faith. Faithless folks have evil in their hearts because the evil one is behind their unbelief. The master of their faithless life is Satan. The devil perverts all God calls holy and pits evil against good.
Paul asks for prayers that they be delivered, rescued, set free from evil people who attack and persecute them for preaching the Good News.
2. The Lord is faithful. Hey fellow Thessalonians Christians (and you and me) handle faithless men by looking to the Faithful One. Jesus will “strengthen” and “protect” you from the evil one. My spirit gets revved up when I read this. Strength and protection from God! That is what you and I need when under attack from the evil one. Not Steve’s strength or Steve’s protection, but God’s!
Outside my front entrance to our home is a sign “Protection 1”. Our security company protects me, my wife, family, our home, and valuables. As far as I know, they do a good job. But I have news for them: Protection 1 comes from the Almighty!
I faithfully punch in my security code at night before retiring. But more importantly, at least four really big, bad warrior angels are posted on the corners of my property, protecting the Rolls from evil while we go nighty-night.
Think with me for a moment. Does Satan think he can take God’s kids out? Can the evil one overthrow God from His throne? Vote him out. Impeach him? Not hardly. The Almighty, all powerful, Sovereign Lord of the universe is a Father who protects and delivers His children from the devil’s evil. Why? Because a Father loves his kids!
As a blood-bought servant of Jesus Christ, a husband, father and grandfather of my family. I will protect, defend and deliver my loved ones from all harm. Don’t think for a second Satan that you are going to take the Roll’s out. You have to go through me. I may not be physically imposing, but I am a spiritually powerful. I am covered by the blood of Christ. A holy blood line, that you cannot cross, separates you from me.
I have my spiritual armor on. I am prayed up and ready to rumble if that is what you want. Just a reminder devil “Greater is He (Jesus Christ) who is in me (Steve Roll) than he (you devil) who is in the world.” I John 4:4. My faith in Christ overcomes you every single time!
Anyone who attempts to hurt my loved ones will not like the deliverance I will put on them.
Be encouraged fellow Christian. Let’s pray for each other to be strengthened and protected daily by our faithful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Walk in faith, not fear. Stand firm and steadfast. Withstand the futile attempts of the devil and evil people to hurt you. The evil one, perverse and evil people have no authority in the lives of God’s children. Their eternal destiny in the unquenchable fires of hell is already determined.
May peace rule in your heart because Almighty God is protecting you.
“And he said, the Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.” II Samuel 2:2

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
A Word For Your Week:
Protection by God is protection indeed.
